The New York Times: IT IS TIME YOU APOLOGIZE!

The New York Times needs to apologize on PAGE 1 for its mob inciting editorials.

From Basil Russo’s email:

The Italian-American community had great success with respect to the New Orleans proclamation.

However, since several of the Italian-American organizations forwarded emails to The New York Times requesting an apology for its editorial supporting the New Orleans lynchings, The Times editorial department has arrogantly refused to discuss the issue with us.

As a result, we are moving up the ladder and forwarding letters from all of our major organizations to The Times’ executive editor, publisher and its legal counsel.

We are also redoubling our efforts on our websites to encourage our members to forward emails demanding an apology.  All Italian-American organizations should be forwarding their letters to Mike Santo, who will serve as our point person with The Times.  Mike successfully initiated the effort to obtain the proclamation of apology from the city of New Orleans.

Below is a copy of the letter submitted by the ISDA. If you haven’t individually sent an short email to The New Times demanding an apology, please do so.

We need to win this battle.

Well Mr. Santo, looking at your name, I am wondering if you are of Hungarian Descent. My husband’s correct spelling of the name Santo, was Szanto. The “z” was dropped as most Americans could not pronounce Szanto. The family is from Budapest. And I see the Miklos, another Hungarian name.
Anyway, I am a northern Italian (Piedmont, Trento) first generation American. Although my Dad was born in Marseille. in 1905, his parents were from Piedmonte and went to Marseille to work. We were Italian through and through. My Mom from the former Austria/Hungary empire.

We have stories of the Italians, which you may or may not know, and how they were persecuted while working the coal mines near Shenandoah, PA. Took a tour of the coal mine, and had an excellent tour guide. He explained how the work was done in the mines, and how the bosses (capo) would cheat the Italians out of their pay. “Accidents” happened and some were killed in the mines. Some killed when they tried to get coal to keep the home warm when they received no pay. More Italians were hung than any other nationality or color. But, did they protest. Sure they did in quiet so no one else would be punished, they just pulled up their britches and found other opportunities. Italians and the Irish were resilient people and forged on.

I will read what was written and research your writing. I belong to the Gulf Coast Italian American Cultural Society. We are located along the Mississippi Gulf Coast. Would love it if you came down and spoke to us. But, our bank account will not allow us to pay for anything. Although we have a member who can put ypu up at a casino for a few days.
