AIFEDSE on Indigenous Peoples’ Day in Louisiana

AIFEDSE president Charles Marsala and Jefferson Parish president Yenni show the Columbus Day Proclamation.

Gov. Edwards has proclaimed October 14 Indigenous Peoples’ Day, to recognize the contributions of Native Americans in Louisiana.

The idea of Indigenous Peoples’ Day came about in Berkeley, California in 1992 when a celebration made residents question the Columbus “legacy.”

Columbus Day Proclamation in Jefferson Parish
On September 10, 2019, Jefferson Parish President Mike Yenni declared Oct 12th as Columbus Day.
